Lady Patrina committed a social error by a failed elopement. Her character doesn't fit the part. She has had 2 Seasons without a single serious suitor so she is desperate, but she knew the risk of being ousted by Polite Society, not only to herself but to her younger sisters. Now, nine months later she is living with regret, not that she lost her fiancé whom she's recognized didn't love her, but that she now faces spinsterhood and her sisters' Seasons will be adversely affected by the scandal. Lady Patrina's character is contradictory. She has no musical talent, but sings with no consideration for whom she may be annoying. But in the next scene she is willing to give up her only chance at happiness because it might stigmatize a potential 8 year old step-daughter. Weston is supposedly a dark character but with the exception of their first encounter he is a loving man with a bitter past. Fun-loving, dashing Jonathan, Lord Sinclair, (from previous books in the series) has become rigid, stuffy and too dependent on his wife. The book wasn't finished. Throughout the story the stumbling block for their marriage was the scandal and Society's rejection. They thumbed their nose at society so how did Society respond? Did they live happily ever after? Did they migrate to a different country? Did they rusticated in the country?

A Marquess for Christmas Scandalous Seasons Book 5 edition by Christi Caldwell Romance eBooks Reviews
What a wonderful story read straight through to the end. Lady Patrina Tidemore had ruined her reputation months before. She thought that she was eloping with a man who loved her. He was only doing it to have revenge on her brother and his sister. She still is pure but is scorned by the ton as they believe the worse. She goes to Hyde Park everyday with her maid so she can be away from her critics. She goes even in the winter. One day she is hit by snowballs by two children and begins throwing them back.Weston Aldridge 4th Marquess of Beaufort hears his children calling out.He comes up and starts abrading Patrina for hitting his children. The children have gone wild since his wife's death. He has become bitter as she was killed leaving them for her latest lover. I think you will enjoy this book of two people tring to find love and second chances. Patrina is sure her reputation would keep her from finding love. she does not want to hurt him or his family by it. I liked that when he made his mind up nothing would stop them. I felt the romance but was only kisses between them. A very good author looking for another book from her soon.
This novella is about Patrice Tidemore, a young lady who had the misfortune to be duped by a cad to run off and elope with him, only to be dumped by him. The scandal has made her an outcast of the ton and could lead to her sisters' difficulties in making good matches when or if they come out.
She is at Hyde Park contemplating the past and the bleak future she faces. Then out of nowhere Daniel and Charlotte begin pelting her with snowballs. Not knowing the children, she retaliates with snowballs of her own. Their father comes upon this and that is when she meets Weston, the Marquess of Beaufort. Their first meeting ends with her comments of the children's behavior and his reaction.
Despite their first rocky meeting, they continue to meet up at unexpected times. Despite her past and her family's doubts, Patrice develops feelings for the Marquess. For his part, the Marquess had a disastrous first marriage that left him with a distrust of women. Gradually he too has feelings and after less than two weeks time, he asks for her hand in marriage. This causes reactions in both her and his families that could ruin the happiness of both Patrice and Weston.
This novella is easily read in a couple of hours and I read it in one sitting because I just had to find out how they found their happily ever after despite other's misgivings. Fans of the author and those who like like short novellas with characters you want to succeed in finding happiness will probably like this Recency. I know I did.
This touching story shows the heart of the author in the dynamic personality of the heroine. Christy Caldwell is such an awesome person and it comes across in her writing.
The mistakes of youth often add obstacles to our future. When everyone is judging you for it that mistake can be an even greater detriment. Seeing the Lady Patrina suffer for her innocence and still willing to put others needs above her own shows us a strength of character that makes her a true heroine.
I love these historical romances they make me believe in a kinder, simpler time even though as an amateur historian I know that this time period was wrought with its own difficulties.
I'm thankful for fiction and happy endings!
